Sabato, 28 Gennaio 2012, oltre 400 persone si sono riunite allo studio BeSpun a Hollywood, California per la terza edizione del Pole Show LA. Tutto esaurito per lo spettacolo più atteso dell’anno con una coda all’ingresso chilometrica. L’evento è stato sponsorizzato da The Pole Dancing Shop, X-Pole, Mighty Grip, Dew Point e Pole Expo Las Vegas.
Lo showcase includeva star provenienti da tutto il mondo, docenti e studenti di BeSpun, e altri pole dancer notevoli della zona di Hollywood.
Tra ogni performance, un breve assolo di ballerini accompagnava le ragazze che si occupavano della pulizia del palo. I pole dancer che si sono alternati tra una performance e l’altra sono Ariel Jacobs (sorella di Alethea Austin), Alice Hodg, Lena Lockerby, Josiah “Bad Azz” Grant alias Sir D’Lorian Fox (istruttore a BeSpun), Becca Armijo (Pole Pumas), Jess Lea (a quanto si dice una pole dancer nuova di zecca), Amber Richard (istruttore BeSpun e The Choreography House), Kelly Maglia (che ha anche fatto molti dei costumi), Breezelle Fox (straordinaria routine booty poppin’), Margarita Evans, Jennifer Strand, Tiffany Hayden (Glitter Heels), e Dana Davidson.
Lo spettacolo è iniziato con “The Honey Fall Girls”, coreografia di Leigh Ann Reilly (proprietaria di BeSpun), con un team di cinque ballerine del BeSpun: Andrewa Britz, Kate Chanthanakaew, Emma Danoff, Yvonne Huffman-Lutz e Cash Roses. I loro costumi, disegnati da Kelly Maglia, erano adorabili per non parlare delle scarpe Glitter Heels, creati dall’instruttrice al BeSpun Tiffany Hayden.
La prima star ad esibirsi è stata Prana, da Parigi, Francia. Pratica la pole dance dal 2008 e insegna al Pole Dance Paris. La sua routine era davvero selvaggia come un gatto ispirata dal Crazy Horse di Paris. Prana è fortissima e stupenda da vedere.
La direttrice di BeSpun, Amy Guion si è esibita subito dopo in una performance chiamata “A Long time ago, in a desert far, far away” ispirata dalla storia di Aladino e il genio della lampada. La performance è iniziata con un pezzo di contorsionismo con Fiona Luna e il partner di Amy, David Garcia. Amy si è poi esibita sul palo con un pezzo di Christina Aguilera, Genie in a Bottle. È stata una routine davvero bella e ci ha mostrato la grande flessiblità e forza di Amy.
Zoraya Judd è stata la seconda star ad esibirsi. Se non avete ancora visto la performance di Zoraya, dovete assolutamente guardarla. È una performance eccezionale, dai capelli al make-up fino alla sua routine. Il passaggio di livello c’è stato quando è salito sul palco il marito Nic Judd per passarle un pitone, con il quale Zoraya ha finito la sua routine.
Il pezzo successivo è stato chiamato “Gemini3000” e includeva le ballerine del BeSpun Sergia Louise Anderson, Tami Brandel, Jennifer Jim e Lacy McGarry. Uno dei punti forti è stato quando tutte e quattro le pole dancer si sono esibite girando sullo stesso palo.
Flying Laura Martin ha assolutamente scosso lo spettacolo. Ha tirato fuori una sorprendente e del tutto inaspettata routine hip hop insieme a due altri ballerini, Marta Karwowska e Isabella Konald. Flying Laura è un altra performer che va vista dal vivo, è davvero una potenza.
L’esibizione successiva è stata di Leigh Ann Reilly (proprietaria del BeSPun) chiamata “In the Night”. Erano presenti anche i ballerini di BeSpun Alex Catalano, Pamela Morency e Angela Relucio. Leigh Ann ha iniziato la performance su una bicicletta e l’ha terminata facendo una verticale sulla motocicletta, da vedere assolutamente.
Purtroppo, il sistema audio si è bloccato durante la performance di Leigh Ann Reilly ed è stato momentaneamente interrotto lo spettacolo, provocando un piccolo cambiamento nei programmi. Quando le performance sono riprese, il sistema audio non era ancora funzionante.
Lo spettacolo è ricominciato con Estee Zakar che ha iniziato la sua performance indossando una maschera da gatto davvero cool. Estee è davvero fortissima e la sua routine è stata molto divertente. Ci ha anche mostrato un tricks al palo eccezionale, ovvero una specie di Iron-X girando tutto il corpo, insomma è difficile da spiegare ma sorprendente da vedere.
Steven Retchless si è esibito subito dopo, con una routine bellissima tutta basata sulla danza classica. Purtroppo, l’impianto audio non era ancora perfettamente funzionante, e non sentendo benissimo la canzone abbiamo potuto godere di ogni suo movimento.
La performance seguente, “Ligature”, era basata sulla routine di Amy Guion che gli ha fatto vicincere il terzo posto 2011 California Pole Dance Championship routine. Ha coinvolto quattro ballerine Paula Cavajal, Cristina Campi, Tracey Mueller e Lisa Wilhoit, con costumi ispirati alle dominatrici e delle corde rosse con le quali le pole dancer si sono esibite sul palo.
Un ragno che conquista il palo, è questo il personaggio sulla quale ha basato la coreografia la splendida Natasha Wang. Natasha è eccezionale sul palo e ogni volta che si esibisce ci sorprende e ci infuoca. Il suono non funzionava ancora correttamente, ma grazie a ciò siamo entrate completamente nella performance facendoci sentire e percepire ogni movimento.
La routine successiva “Wonderland” ispirata ad Alice nel paese delle meraviglie, è stata ballata da Audra Bennett, Lindsey Kimura, Siena Spaulding e Adrienne Strauss. Adrienne ha anche scritto ed eseguito le musiche per il pezzo e ha creato tutte le grafiche che scorrevano. È stata una routine molto divertente. Fortunatamente, l’impianto audio ha ricominciato a funzionare proprio a metà di questa splendida performance.
Amber Kittle ha stupito tutti iniziando la sua routine dal soffitto con un death lay, utilizzando tutti i6 metridi palo disponibili. La sua performance è stata atletica e veloce, così tanto che non riuscivamo neanche a notare i disegni che aveva sul corpo. Ad Amber serve proprio un robusto palo attaccata al soffitto per poter camminare tranquillamente a testa in giù e piedi all’aria. Non c’è da stupirsi se non poteva competere nel 2011 al California Pole Dance Championship su un X-Stage!
Verso la fine dello spettacolo un duo davvero scoppiettante Karol Helms e Alethea Austin sono salite sul palco per una “Education”. Alethea era quasi irriconoscibile a prima vista con una parrucca nera. La loro routine ha davvero animato e infiammato il pubblico, anche grazie alle ballerine Andrea Britz, Ariel Jacobs, Valarie Miller, Lana Sales, Melissa Schrader e Jennifer Vigil.
Ha chiuso lo spettacolo la sempre splendida Jenyne Butterfly. La routine è stata eccezionale, e lei è fantastica ed è sempre la favorita della folla. Durante la serata, prima dell’esibizione Jenyne ci ha confessato che non si era allenata molto negli ultimi due mesi, ma se si guarda la performance credo che non ci scommetterebbe nessuno. Lei ha di sicuro guadagnato il titolo di “Pole Queen” della serata!
Certo, per alcuni aspetti lo show è stato un po’ frustrante a causa di problemi di spazio e posti a sedere, i pilastri bloccano la visuale e le persone in piedi erano stipate come sardine. L’interruzione dello spettacolo a causa dei problemi di audio è stato un po’ un dispiacere, ma le performance sono state eccezionali e noi tutti siamo stati fortunati di aver potuto assistere ad uno spettacolo eccezionale con grandi pole dancers.

On Saturday, January 28, 2012, over 400 people gathered at BeSpun in Hollywood, California for their third annual Pole Show LA. It was a sold out show with a line around the block. The event was sponsored The Pole Dancing Shop, X-Pole, Mighty Grip, Dew Point and Pole Expo Las Vegas. The showcase included headliners from all over the world, instructors and students from BeSpun, and other notable pole dancers from the area.
Between each performance, there was a short solo by dancers while the pole cleaners did their work. The soloists included Ariel Jacobs (Alethea Austin’s sister), Alice Hodge, Lena Lockerby, Josiah “Bad Azz” Grant aka Sir D’Lorian Fox (instructor at BeSpun), Becca Armijo (Pole Pumas), Jess Leah (reportedly a brand new pole dancer), Amber Richard (instructor at BeSpun and The Choreography House), Kelly Maglia (who also made many of the costumes), Breezelle Fox (amazing booty poppin’ routine), Margarita Evans, Jennifer Strand, Tiffany Hayden (Glitter Heels), and Dana Davidson.
The show started with “The Honey Fall Girls”, which was choreographed by Leigh Ann Reilly (owner of BeSpun) and included five BeSpun dancers: Andrewa Britz, Kate Chanthanakaew, Emma Danoff, Yvonne Huffman-Lutz and Cash Roses. Their costumes, designed by Kelly Maglia, were adorable. They also featured Glitter Heels, which are made by BeSpun instructor, Tiffany Hayden.
The first headliner was Prana, who is from Paris, France. She has been pole dancing since 2008 and teaches at Pole Dance Paris. Her routine was very wild cat-like. She is so strong and beautiful to watch.
BeSpun’s manager, Amy Guion was next in a piece called “A Long time ago, in a desert far, far away.” It started with contortionist Fiona Luna and Amy’s partner David Garcia. The pole portion was set to the Christina Aguilera song, Genie in a Bottle. It was a really cute routine and really showcased Amy’s flexibility.
Zoraya Judd was the second headliner. If you have not seen Zoraya perform, you really need to watch her. She is an outstanding performer. From her hair and make-up to her routine. She took it to the next level when her husband Nic joined her on stage to hand over a python snake. She finished her routine on the pole with a snake wrapped around her neck.
The next piece was called Gemini 3000 and included BeSpun dancers Sergia Louise Anderson, Tami Brandel, Jennifer Jim and Lacy McGarry. One of the highlights was when all four performers were spinning on one pole.
Flying Laura Martin absolutely rocked the show. She pulled out an amazing and completely unexpected hip hop routine with backup dancers, Marta Karwowska and Isabella Konald. Flying Laura is another performer that you must see in person if you can. She is such a powerhouse.
Leigh Ann Reilly was next with “In the Night.” It included BeSpun dancers Alex Catalano, Pamela Morency and Angela Relucio. Leigh Ann started the performance on a motorcycle and later rocked a shoulder stand on it.
Unfortunately, the sound system went out during Leigh Ann’s performance and an early intermission was called, causing a small change in the lineup. Even when the performances started again, the sound system was not fixed and most could not hear the one working speaker that appeared to be back stage.
Estee Zakar started her performance in a really cool cat mask. She is so strong and her routine was really fun to watch. She does some kind of Iron-X round about that is hard to explain but amazing to watch.
Steven Retchless was next. His routine was ballet-based and so beautiful. Sadly, the sound was still out, although it gave us an opportunity to enjoy his movement.
The next routine, “Ligature”, was based on Amy Guion’s third-place 2011 California Pole Dance Championship routine. It involved four dancers: Paula Cavajal, Christine Fields, Tracey Mueller and Lisa Wilhoit. It included dominatrix inspired costumes and red ropes, from which the dancers could hang from the poles.
Natasha Wang based the character in her routine on a spider that conquers the pole. Natasha is definitely the sweetheart of pole dancing and we always love watching her performances. With the sound still not working properly, it did allow the crowd to truly take in her movements.
“Wonderland” was an Alice-in-Wonderland inspire routine danced by Audra Bennett, Lindsey Kimura, Sienna Spalding and Adrienne Strauss. Adrienne also wrote and performed the music for the piece and created the art in the background. It was a really fun routine. Happily, the speakers started working again about half way through their performance.
Amber Kittle amazed us all by starting her routine on the ceiling in a 20-foot death lay. Her performance was so fast and athletic. She had some designs on her body highlighted with a black light, but you didn’t notice them because she moved so quickly. This girl requires a sturdy pole that connects to the ceiling to do her impressive walk on the ceiling. No wonder she was not able to compete in 2011’s California Pole Dance Championship on X-Stages!
Karol Helms and Alethea Austin teamed up for “Education.” Alethea was almost unrecognizable at first in a black wig. Their school girl-themed doubles routine rocked the house and included backup dancers Andrea Britz, Ariel Jacobs, Valarie Miller, Lana Sales, Melissa Schrader and Jennifer Vigil.

Jenyne Butterfly closed the show. She is such a sweetheart and is always the crowd favorite. She claimed earlier in the night that she had not been on the pole much in the previous two months, but you couldn’t tell by the performance she gave. She has definitely earned the title of “Pole Queen!”
Sure, it was slightly frustrating for many people due to spacing and seating issues (pillars blocked the view for some and those standing were packed in like sardines). And the speakers being out for a good portion of the show was also disappointing. But the performances were top notch and we were all lucky to have been able to witness that many amazing pole performers in one place.
